AT&T Uverse, Blogger, Blogspot and Google can't connect

Postby samuel » Sat Mar 27, 2010 1:58 pm

This started last night and I was wondering if it was just my issue, or if the websites were down. I noticed that many websites throughout the internet are loading very slowly and that I wasn't able to access blogger.com and blogspot.com at all. I of course did a bit of searching around (as many other sites open just fine) and found out that others are having problems accessing blogspot and blogger too.

It seems that people at AT&T have no real idea what the problem is. As other people have noticed, we are able to access all of those pages fine by using a proxy server (a website that basically acts as a go-between between you and the site you are trying to view - the proxy downloads the website and then sends the information to you). You can find a bunch of sites that provide proxies by just googling "proxy" - but beware that the proxy websites are usually loaded with tons of ads.

At this point, it is a wait and see what the problem and solution will be. I haven't yet taken the AT&T tech supports suggesting of rebooting my modem, as he admitted that it only had a 50/50 chance of making any difference.

I did try rebooting my modem/router and it made no difference. At this time, however, things are back to working. Some people think it was a problem on Google's end - as traceroutes to blogger died on the last step in California. It's odd that it only affected AT&T's users though. I'm curious if we'll ever hear an explanation from AT&T or Google regarding what the problem was. Hopefully it won't come back.

I do have to say I'm fairly happy with U-verse at this time, in spite of all of the original headaches. We haven't had many outages (none come to mind aside from this weird stuff today that may not have been Uverse's fault), and I like being able to watch DVR'd shows on any TV in the house. It's cool to be able to set the recordings online.

Also, in the last few weeks we've noticed that caller ID is now showing up on the television screen when someone calls. It's a nice feature.
