AT&T Uverse Phone Static

Postby samuel » Mon Jul 27, 2009 6:13 pm

Been with Uverse for a few months and have been having some problems with telephone line static. I am wondering if anyone else has some ideas as to what is going on. I first chatted with the Uverse support with the online chat, and they said they reset some things and I had to reboot my router. I did that, and the static seemed gone at the moment. By the next day, the static was back.

I tried the online chat again, and they again did some stuff but I didn't need to reboot my router. It again seemed like the static was gone, but it was back within a day.

Today I tried calling and dealing with phone support. They suggested the problem is that if there are 2.4 gigahertz phones plugged in they will interfere with the phone signal. This sounded very strange to me, as I wasn't actually talking on the 2.4 ghz phone, but I do have some plugged in. I went around and unplugged them all. The static at that moment was gone, but that is not unusual with my problem as it tends to come and go.

He said give it a few days before calling back if it's returned, saying that we should give the service some time without the 2.4ghz phones plugged in. Again, I'm not sure at all why it would take a few days to have any impact if they are interfering. At this moment, I do have some static again. I'm going to live with it for a few days before calling back. It sounds like we'll be needing to have a technician come out and troubleshoot the static issue.

I'll be glad if they can get this working, but in the end, perhaps we should have just gone with Comcast.

As expected, unplugging the 2.4gz phones did absolutely nothing to the static. We wound up having to call a technician out and they replaced our router and made some other line adjustments (as best I can tell). It does seem like they've gotten rid of our static problem.
